Beaufort woman pushes for safe pedestrian connection across Russell Bell Bridge

Allison Kindwall wasn’t trying to start a campaign when she set out for a Saturday morning run to the Port Royal Farmers Market.

She was just trying to get there without a car.

But as Kindwall made her way toward the Russell Bell Bridge, the sidewalk disappeared. What she thought would be a relatively simple run instead left her navigating a busy stretch of roadway with no safe pedestrian route to the bridge.

“I should be able to run over the bridge safely,” Kindwall said. “Like, that’s not a crazy thing to say.”

Search continues for missing Parris Island man in Broad River area

The search for a missing and endangered Marine stationed at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island was temporarily suspended Friday because of weather after multiple resources were called to search the Broad River area.

Yu Wei Huo, 33, was last seen at approximately 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, in the area of the Broad River Bridge, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
