Gullah/Geechee Culture Takes Center Stage in Port Royal
Port Royal celebrated Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Awareness Month on Saturday, October 17, with the inaugural Gullah/Geechee Port Royal Party at Naval Heritage Park. Hosted by Queen Quet, Chieftess and Head-of-State of the Gullah/Geechee Nation, the afternoon event was presented by the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition in collaboration with the Town of Port Royal. As a first-year event, it marks a new home for Gullah/Geechee celebration on the Port Royal waterfront, and organizers hope it becomes an annual tradition.
