Beaufort County isn’t just where I live. It’s home.
This community raised me. I attended Lady’s Island Elementary, St. Helena Junior High, and Beaufort High School. My grandmother and mother attended Beaufort County schools. My children attended our schools, and now my grandson does, too. Our schools are part of my family’s story, and their future matters to me.
I appreciate everyone who has asked questions, offered encouragement, or taken time to learn why I am running for Beaufort County School Board, District 2. You deserve to know my heart and the experience I would bring to this responsibility.
After graduating from Beaufort High, I joined the United States Army, serving during the Desert Shield and Desert Storm era. Medical challenges ended my military career, but my desire to serve continued. I later worked at Naval Hospital Beaufort, continuing my commitment to public service.
Military and federal service taught me discipline, teamwork, accountability, and respect for responsible decision-making. As a local business owner, I understand planning, financial responsibility, solving problems, and being accountable for results. These experiences shape how I approach leadership.
Back home, I kept asking: “How can I make a difference in the lives of people in my community?”
In the mid-1990s, I started the Beaufort Storms football team to create opportunity, structure, and fellowship. Financial limitations prevented us from sustaining the team, but the commitment behind it remained.
In January 2008, the Extra Mile Club Mentoring Program was born.
I wanted young people to know that somebody saw them, believed in them, and cared enough to walk beside them. Mentoring means encouraging children while holding them accountable and helping them understand that where they start does not have to determine where they finish.
Through mentoring, school athletics, and collaboration with the Beaufort County Youth Conference, I have supported young people and the adults working to help them succeed. I have been available to students, parents, teachers, coaches, and administrators who needed encouragement, advocacy, or an extra set of hands.
Long before there was a campaign, there was service.
That service has prepared me to bring a practical, community-centered perspective to school board leadership. I understand that serving on the board requires preparation, sound judgment, responsible oversight, and collaboration. It means asking thoughtful questions, reviewing information carefully, listening to differing perspectives, and holding ourselves accountable for decisions affecting children and public resources.
I respect the expertise of educators. My responsibility would be to support strong district leadership, insist on clear expectations and transparency, and help ensure that decisions reflect the needs of students, families, and staff.
My priorities are student achievement, school safety, health and wellness, teacher recruitment and retention, and meaningful parent and community engagement.
Behind every student is a story. Behind every teacher is a person giving of themselves. Behind every parent is a dream for their child. Those people must remain at the center of our decisions.
I want parents to feel heard, teachers to feel valued, and students to have every opportunity to succeed. Every child deserves support, regardless of their circumstances.
I do not claim to have every answer. I promise to listen, prepare, ask questions, and work with others. When difficult decisions arise, I will remember the people they affect.
These are our children, our families, and our schools. This is home.
With humility, gratitude, and a heart committed to Beaufort County, I ask for your vote and the opportunity to continue serving in this capacity. I will show up, advocate, and never forget that this seat belongs to the people.
This is the next chapter of a lifetime of public service.
