Beaufort County EMS employees receive promotions

Staff reports

Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services recently announced the promotion of the following personnel to new positions (new position – employee, old position):

Shift Supervisor – Matthew Pastore, Paramedic

Senior Crew Chief – Sara Cathey, Paramedic; Anjohnene (AJ) Drake, Paramedic

Crew Chief – Joseph Dimond, Paramedic; Shayna Orsen, Paramedic; Michael Quintanilla, Paramedic; Jason Schroyer, Paramedic

Each position requires a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Paramedic, specific advanced lifesaving education, along with several required Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) certifications.

The selected individuals have completed at least two years of service with the agency and assumed their new roles on Feb. 14, coinciding with the implementation of our new 24-on/72-off (one day on, three days off) work schedule.

Established more than 50 years ago, Beaufort County EMS operated under a 24/48 shift schedule until personnel voted to transition to a 24/72 shift option. This schedule, adopted by first responder agencies across the United States to improve work–life balance and reduce fatigue and burnout associated with increased call volumes, was approved by Beaufort County Council in June 2025 to be effective to start with the Fiscal Year 2026.
