Pat Franklin McGarity

Pat Franklin McGarity, 92, of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan died on Thursday, April 23 at his home in Beaufort, South Carolina.

Pat was born to Lescar Caldwell McGarity and Dorothy Brown McGarity on Dec. 9, 1933 in Monroe, Ga. He grew up in both Monroe and Anderson, S.C. He was a graduate of Monroe High School and an Eagle Scout. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Georgia Tech where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

Immediately upon graduation he joined the Ford Motor Company where his career spanned 38 years. His Ford career took him to Mexico City, Mexico; San Paulo, Brazil; and Michigan where he retired as Manager Design Staff.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne, his daughters, Megan and Christine, and his son, Charles, his grandsons, Joshua, Michael and Stephen, his granddaughters, Carolina, Teresa, and Jessica and his sister, Jan. He is predeceased by his brother, Michael and his son, Ernst.

Pat was an avid traveler. As a teenager he had the opportunity to travel throughout Mexico and the United States from the east to the west coast including Alaska. Later in life he traveled extensively throughout South America, Asia, Africa and Europe.

Pat enjoyed restoring antique and classic cars. He was a member of the Early Ford V8 Club (adviser) and Antique Automobile Club of America. He served as a board member of the Hilton Head Concours d’Elegance.

Pat served several years on the boards of Nemours Wildlife Foundation and AMI Kids Beaufort.

Pat enjoyed sailing and was a member and Past Commodore of the Old Club, Harsens Island, Michigan and the Grosse Pointe Club, Grosse Pointe, Michigan. He also enjoyed his membership in the Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club.

A Funeral Service is scheduled for 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, at St. Helena Anglican Church, 507 Newcastle Street in Beaufort, S.C.
