Parris Island drill instructor found dead in Florida

A drill instructor assigned to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island was found dead in Florida over the weekend.

Sgt. Albert Haynes II, a drill instructor assigned to Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, was found deceased in a hotel room on Saturday May 30, in Starke, Fla.

Sgt. Haynes was on Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) conducting a poolee function event with Recruiting Station Jacksonville at the time of the incident, according to a media release from MCRD Parris Island Communication Strategy and Operations (COMMSTRAT). The incident is under investigation by the Bradford County Sheriff’s Department in Florida. The U.S. Marine Corps is cooperating with the authorities.

The 24-year-old Haynes, of Austin, Pa., was married with no children. His Military Occupational Specialties were Field Artillery Cannoneer and Drill Instructor.

Haynes had completed the Field Artillery Basic Course (USMC School of Artillery, Fort Sill, Okla.) and Drill Instructor School (MCRD Parris Island).

Haynes awards and decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (x2), the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (x3).
