ICE conducted operations in Beaufort County on Friday, May 29, according to a release from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the release, the BCSO, “assisted ICE — Homeland Security in a coordinated immigration enforcement operation conducted under the Federal 287(g) Program.”
The operation was conducted in cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) and also assisted by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), under established federal immigration enforcement authorities.
Lt. Danny Allen, spokesperson for the BCSO could not confirm any specific details but did say that operations were conducted throughout the county, north and south of the Broad River.
According to the release, the operation focused on locating and apprehending individuals who had previously been ordered removed from the United States by a Federal Immigration Judge and who had failed to comply with those lawful removal orders.
BCSO personnel assisted federal authorities by providing operational support, officer safety coordination, and logistical assistance during the operation.
