Cpl. Dorothy W. Johnson, USMC, has been named this year’s Veterans Day Parade Grand Marshal, Beaufort County Veterans Affairs has announced.
The 2025 Beaufort County Veterans Day Parade will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 11. It will begin at Beaufort National Cemetery. In case of inclement weather the parade will be canceled.
Originally from Dale, Johnson graduated The Mather School in 1958. She enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1961 in New York.
Cpl. Johnson completed her basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, and later received a permanent personnel assignment at Headquarters Company, Women Marines Detachment, Marine Corps Schools, Quantico, Va. She was assigned to the 254 3 Message Center, serving as a Telephone Operator and later as a Chief Clerical Supervisor in Communications.
In this capacity, Cpl. Johnson was responsible for training, scheduling, and supervising Marine personnel across multiple shifts, ensuring that all communication and administrative operations were performed with precision and discipline.
Later, from 2003 to 2006, she served with the Beaufort County Disabilities and Special Needs Program, providing compassionate care, supervision, and daily support for clients with special needs-further reflecting her lifelong dedication to serving others.
Johnson is a proud and devoted member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where she has served faithfully in Jail Ministry, Senior Adult Ministry, and Missionary Work. Her service to her community and her church exemplifies her enduring faith and commitment to helping others.
