Republican JoJo Woodard, a longtime Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputy and investigator for the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, filed Monday to run for Beaufort County Sheriff.
Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner announced earlier this month he would not seek re-election and would retire when his term ended in early 2027.Woodard is the second to file to run for Tanner’s position.
Longtime BCSO deputy Doug Seifert filed the day after Tanner’s announcement. As of Tuesday morning, Woodard and Seifert are the only two who have filed to run for the seat, according to the South Carolina Election Commission’s website.In other races of interest t northern Beaufort County voters, two Democrats have filed to run for the State House District 121 seat — incumbent Michael Rivers and challenger, Shannon DeLoach.
In the race to fill Nancy Mace’s soon-to-be-open seat in the 1stCongressional District, six Republicans and three Democrats have filed, so far.The Republicans include Jenny Honeycutt, Logan Cunningham, Kendal Ludden, Alex Pelbath, Cindy Wagers Riley and Mark Smith.
The Democrats are Mac Deford, Max Diaz and Nancy Lecore.In the race for the U.S. Senate, Republican incumbent Lindsey Graham is being challenged by fellow Republicans Thomas Keith Dismukes, Pat Herman and Mark Lynch.
Democrats running for the seat include Dr. Annie Andrews and Brandon Brown.
