Potential inclement weather forces eLearning day for Beaufort County students

Students in the Beaufort County School District (BCSD) will have an eLearning and remote workday on Tuesday due to the forecasted inclement weather.

The decision was made to make Tuesday, Jan. 9, an eLearning workday was made to avoid having to have a make-up day on March 28.

“Please know BCSD doesn’t make these decisions lightly,” the press release sent out from the Beaufort County School District on Monday afternoon read. “We have many factors to consider, especially tomorrow’s projected high winds that prohibit the safe travel of school buses.”

According to the National Weather Service out of Charleston, a strong cold front will push through the Southeast on Tuesday and into Tuesday night.

Ahead of the front, high winds, coastal flooding, severe thunderstorms and dangerous marine conditions are expected to impact Beaufort County.

All extracurricular activities and afterschool programs scheduled for Tuesday have been cancelled.

All district buildings will be closed tomorrow as well.

Students will receive instructions from their teachers and schools about what eLearning, assuming electrical and internet utilities are functioning.

Parents and concerned parties are encouraged to stay safe and continue to monitor the district’s channels for the latest communications.
