The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a robbery that occurred within the last hour at a Lady’s Island bank.
Just after 1:30 pm Sheriff’s deputies responded to a bank robbery at Regions Bank (146 Sea Island Pkwy). Employees advised that the bank had been robbed by a black male wearing women’s clothing.
After stealing an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled the area leaving all unharmed. The suspect is described as a black male of thin build, approximately 6’00”, wearing a red dress, a wig with a black hat, and purple glitter lipstick. He was carrying a large, beach style bag, and may have fled the area on a bicycle.
A law enforcement perimeter has been established in the area surrounding the bank as a search for the suspect continues. Residents are asked to remain in their homes and immediately report sightings of any suspicious person(s). Motorists may experience heavy and/or delayed traffic at Meridian Rd, Hwy 21 and Hwy 802 in the area near the bank, as traffic is held for the K9 search in progress. All unnecessary traffic is asked to avoid the area.
The suspect did not brandish a weapon during the robbery; however, he should still be considered potentially armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to contact 911 or Crimestoppers.
