Suspect Arrested for Assaulting Deputy

A Beaufort man wanted for assaulting a Beaufort County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested yesterday afternoon.

Twenty-one year old Jovon Nakia Donaldson was arrested on one count of 3rd degree Assault and Battery and one
count of Resisting Arrest with Bodily Injury in relation to an incident that left a Sheriff’s deputy hospitalized.

At approximately 2 am yesterday morning, deputies patrolling the area of Broad River Blvd observed two
suspicious subjects, dressed all in black, riding bicycles towards Jennings Rd. Upon seeing deputies, one subject
abruptly turned into a yard on Joe Frazier Rd and the other fled towards Possum Hill Rd.

Deputies made contact with the first subject, identified as 47-year old Marion Green outside a home on Joe Frazier
Rd. After speaking with deputies and consenting to a search of his person, Green was released. The second subject,
later identified Jovon Donaldson, was located riding his bike in the area of Possum Hill Rd.

As 38-year old Corporal Michael Kenninger tried to detain him for questioning, Donaldson resisted and attempted
to punch Kenninger in the face. During the ensuing struggle with Donaldson, Kenninger sustained significant
injury to his right leg. Donaldson fled the area, leaving Kenninger injured and unable to pursue. It was later
determined that Donaldson was wanted on an outstanding warrant for an unrelated probation violation.

Kenninger was subsequently transported to Beaufort Memorial where he currently remains for treatment of non-
life threatening injuries.
