Scriba named 2023 Firefighter of the Year

From staff reports

The City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department has awarded Andre Piedra Scriba its 2023 Jennings L. Lyons Firefighter of the Year award, according to its social media accounts. This award is voted on by all members of the department.

Scriba moved to the United States from Costa Rica in 2000 when he was 10 years old. His childhood dream job was to become a firefighter one day.

After running a handyman business early in life, Scriba started volunteering for the City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department in 2019 and was hired full time in 2020.

Scriba has a wife (Amanda) and is a proud father of five (Jeremy, Mia, Hudson, Hannah, and Nora). He is known for being a hard worker, a person that can fix just about anything, kind, and fair.

“I am beyond thankful for the experiences and opportunities that the Beaufort/Port Royal Fire Department has offered me,” Scriba said.
