Holiday Miracles!

Santa was busier than usual in 2023, making three stops at the Beaufort Memorial Collins Birthing Center. Meet (from left to right) Adriel Mendoza, Seoni Bailey and Veronica Barr, all born at the hospital on Christmas Day. Veronica, daughter of Ashton Gilliam and Tristen Barr of Beaufort, was first to arrive just after midnight; Seoni, daughter of Shanta Knight and Galyus Bailey of St. Helena made her debut at 8:24 a.m.; and Adriel, son of Daniela Emiliano and Adrian Mendoza of Yemassee, waited until 10:34 p.m. to make his arrival. Wishing these families a most joyous holiday season and a happy and healthy New Year. Photo courtesy of Charlotte Berkeley, Beaufort Memorial Hospital

Meet Port Royal’s newest resident and the first baby born in Beaufort in 2024, Evelyn Phillips. Weighing in at 7 pounds, 12 ounces, she was a little late to the party – not arriving at the Beaufort Memorial Collins Birthing Center until 11:23 p.m. on New Year’s Day. Looks like 2024 is going to be a big year for parents Jennifer and Kevin Phillips. In addition to welcoming their first child on the first day of the new year, dad Kevin was recently sworn in as the new Mayor of the Town of Port Royal.
