Schools celebrate Read Across America Day

Lady’s Island Elementary School celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a day of fun-filled and educational activities. The National Education Association ‘s “Read Across America Day” calls for all children to celebrate reading on the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. LIES began the celebration with green eggs and ham served by the cafeteria. Mayor Billy Keyserling, BCSD Student Services Officer Gregory McCord and School Board Chairman Bill Evans were among the community members who visited classrooms to read to students.  Firefighters, Beaufort High School football players and other community members also joined in the fun. Students and teachers dressed up as their favorite book characters. Several teachers showed their reading spirit by decorating their classroom doors to represent their favorite books. The Cat in the Hat paid a visit in the afternoon to thank all the students for being such wonderful readers. It was a very “Seussical” day at Lady’s Island Elementary School!
