South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) staff have been asked by the SCDNR Board to gather public input regarding hunting deer with dogs, including perspectives on areas of conflict and potential solutions.
At this time, there is no pending legislation, and SCDNR is not proposing or recommending any changes to current laws or regulations related to hunting deer with dogs.
To ensure all perspectives have an opportunity to be heard, SCDNR is hosting a series of public meetings, focus groups, and a statewide public survey. The information collected will help the agency better understand public perspectives and provide factual, comprehensive information to the SCDNR Board and, if requested, the South Carolina General Assembly.
These engagement opportunities are intended solely to gather public input. SCDNR’s role is to listen, document the information received, and ensure that a broad range of viewpoints is represented. Any changes to state law must be made by the South Carolina General Assembly.
The remaining public engagement forum is scheduled for 6:30 to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 10 at FAITH Church at 858 Bells Highway in Walterboro.
