Nationwide AT&T outage may affect Beaufort 911 services

Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is advising residents of a possible interruption in 911 services for AT&T customers.

They advised customers who cannot connect to the 911 emergency line to call the non-emergency dispatch line at 843-524-2777 in a Nixle sent out on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2024, just before 7:45 a.m.

There have been reports of nationwide outages since around 4 a.m. on Thursday morning according to the website Downdetector.com, a website that tracks cellular service outages.

AT&T appears to be the most widly affected, but customers with T-Mobile, Verizon, U.S. Cellular and Consumer Cellular have also reported issues.

In a statement to CBS News, AT&T said that they are “working urgently to restore service” to their customers, but they are encouraging the use of wi-fi calling as an alternative until service is restored.
