BURTON, SC – Sheriff’s Office Investigating Armed Robbery

(March 14, 2012/10:00 AM) – The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery and assault reported at a Burton home last night.

Just after 10 pm last night, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Churchdale Dr in reference to a burglary and armed robbery that had occurred moments earlier. Upon arrival, deputies met with a 24-year old male and his 25-year old girlfriend who advised that unknown men had entered their home and robbed them.

The male victim advised that while taking his dog out, he observed an unknown black male standing outside his residence. After a brief exchange with the subject, the victim went back inside. Shortly after, the subject, accompanied by a second unknown black male, entered the residence through the unlocked front door.

The male victim advised that both suspects were armed with pistols and demanded money. A struggle ensued between the victim and his attackers, during which the victim was choked and hit in the head with the pistol. The victim reported that one round was discharged during the fight, but it did not strike him.

During the altercation, the female victim was able to escape the home through a window. After taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the male victim, both suspects then fled the home in an unknown direction. Both the male and female victims were transported to Beaufort Memorial where they were treated and released for non-life threatening injuries sustained during the attack.

The suspects were described as black males between the ages of 20-30, both wearing all black clothing. One suspect was described being approximately 6’00”, 185 lbs with short dreads and a short goatee. No further description was available of the second suspect.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information to contact either Investigator Cpl. A. Rice at 843-255-3429 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
