A gala reception was held at the Callawassie Island Clubhouse on Wednesday, February 27 to honor Clarece Walker’s 18 years of service to the United Way of the Lowcountry and her more than three decades of service to the United Way. At the event, the Board of Directors announced the Clarece Walker Legacy Fund, an endowment to continue building the community after her retirement.

“The Legacy Fund is being created to honor Clarece’s contribution to the Lowcountry and to keep Clarece involved in the community by having her make recommendations as to where  money from the fund goes,” said Peter Post, chairman of the United Way of the Lowcountry  Board of Directors.

The fund is intended to change the tide of family circumstances by funding inspiring, cutting edge and innovative educational and other activities that inspire children and adults to lift themselves and their families out of poverty.
