Shortly after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, Beaufort Police officers responded to a report of shots being
fired in the area of Greene Street and Hamar Street. Witnesses at the Charles Lind Brown
Community Center advised that they had heard the occupants of a vehicle make a loud
comment to some people in the basketball court area. Shortly thereafter several shots were
fired by an occupant of the vehicle and the vehicle sped away from the area. No one was struck
by the shots. Witnesses reported that four of the men who had been on the basketball court
and who may have been the target of the assault ran to a black car and sped off. Officers
searched the area for the suspect vehicle and alerted neighboring jurisdictions. A section of
Greene Street was shut down for a short period of time while evidence was gathered. Officers
were able to locate the subjects who were in the second car and some other witnesses who
provided helpful information. Based on the information officers were able to locate the suspect
vehicle and the driver who turned out to be a 15 year old female. The weapon used in the
case has been recovered and turned out to be one that the juvenile had stolen from a family
member. She is being sent to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia. Another juvenile
female who had been in the vehicle was located as well. The case is still in early stages and as
of this point the extent of the second juvenile’s involvement has not been determined. The
suspect who is accused of firing the pistol has been identified as 17 year old Joshua Isaac Oliver
of Washington Street in Beaufort. Oliver is being charged with attempted murder in connection
with this case. This case is still ongoing and interviews are still being conducted at this time.
Additional charges are pending and information is still being developed. Anyone who may
have information on the location of Oliver is requested to contact the 24 hour dispatch office at
524-2777 or investigator Wilson at 322-7949.
