Thanksgiving is a week away, and if you are looking for an alternative to a meal with family and friends, there are several options for community meals in northern Beaufort County.

Whether you are spending the holiday alone, are unable to cook a full Thanksgiving meal on your own or are struggling from financial or personal hardships that make celebrating the holiday at home just out of reach this year, the Lowcountry community has several free, community-style events that have been established parts of the community for decades where you can get a home-cooked meal for Thanksgiving.

Parish Church of St. Helena – 505 Church Street / 507 Newcastle Street

The Parish Church of St. Helana will be celebrating their 46th Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 27, at St. Helena’s Parish Hall.

The meal will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will go until 2 p.m. following a 10:30 a.m. service at St. Helena’s Church.

The event is free of charge, and all are welcome. Deliveries are available for those who are home-bound. To place an order for delivery in advance call 843-522-1712.

The annual feast features turkey and all of the traditional Thanksgiving side dishes and desserts.

Hemingway’s Bistro – 920 Bay Street

Hemingway’s Bistro will be hosting its 30th annual Orphans and Strays Thanksgiving gathering at their location off of Bay Street in downtown Beaufort on Thursday, Nov. 27.

The festivities will commence at 2 p.m.. Panini’s on the Waterfront will be providing food for the event, and Campfire Tyler will provide the entertainment.

They “kindly request” that those attending contribute to the festivities by bringing a dish to share.

Hemingway’s Bistro also will accept donations toward food and supplies from those who are unable to attend but wish to contribute as it helps to “create a safe and enjoyable space for everyone to connect with [the] local community.”

Those who wish to contribute a dish or donate items can comment on their post on their Facebook page or sign up on the sheet that is provided at Hemingway’s.
