Halloween, fall happenings around Beaufort

Whether you are looking to show off your costume, pick up some candy, enjoy a spooky thrill or try to capture some fall magic wherever you can in the Lowcountry, there are so many events and activities around Beaufort that there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy.

Hunting Island State Park Trunk-or-Treat: The free event will last from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, and will include games, s’mores, face painting and candy. Costumes are encouraged but not required. Meet at the Nature Center near the Fripp Island Bridge.

Spook-tacular Halloween in Waterfront Park: Grab your broomsticks and mark your calendars — festivities begin at 10 a.m., and trick-or-treating starts at 12:30 p.m.,, Saturday, Oct. 18, hosted by the City of Beaufort at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park. Expect games and other wicked fun activities. Little goblins, witches, and wizards can fill their bags with sweet treats from participating businesses. DJ Trish will be spinning spook-tacular tunes to keep spirits high and monsters dancing. Kids can compete for prizes and enjoy all the tricks and treats of the season. 

Trick-or-Treat in downtown Beaufort: The free event will last from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23. Children can wear their costumes and head downtown Beaufort for the annual Trick-or-Treat event presented by Main Street Beaufort, USA and the downtown merchants. Participants will trick or treat at downtown businesses along Bay, Carteret, Port Republic, West, Charles and Scott Streets. 

Historic Beaufort Foundation’s Fall Festival of Houses and Gardens: The event begins Friday, Oct. 24 and goes through Sunday, Oct. 26. Tickets are required for this event and can be purchased from the Historic Beaufort Foundation’s website. Visitors are invited to view private homes and gardens representing three centuries of Beaufort architecture for which the city is famous. The tours are self-paced walking tours.

Rosie O’Grady’s 8th Annual Monster Mash: The Irish pub and bar in Beaufort Town Center is having a Monster Mash Halloween Party and costume contest on Friday, Oct. 31 at 9:30 p.m. There will be prizes, live music, specials and more. The event is adults only.

Junior Service League Beaufort’s Halloween Bash Adult Costume Party: The event begins at 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24 at The Old Bull Tavern in downtown Beaufort. This is the 5th annual JSLB Halloween Bash and is an adult only Halloween costume party. A cash bar will be open and there will be music and prizes.

Wined It Up’s Halloween Party: The restaurant on Bay Street in downtown Beaufort is hosting its first Halloween Party and Costume Contest featuring live jazz with Vic Varner and Friends beginning at 8 p.m. Costume contest entries need to be signed up by 9 p.m. Reservations are accepted for tables only.

Bricks on Boundary Halloween Zombie Apocalypse Party: The event begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31 with live music from the UN-deadbeats and a cash prize for the best Halloween costumes. Bricks is located on Boundary Street in uptown Beaufort.

Boondocks Restaurant’s annual Halloween Party: The event begins on Friday, Oct. 31 at 9 p.m. with live entertainment by The Brewer Band. There will be a costume contest with cash prizes and giveaways, a pumpkin carving contest and more. The restaurant is located at 1760 Sea Island Parkway on St. Helena Island.

Trunk-or-Treat on Paris Avenue: The event will run from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26 on Paris Avenue between 10th and 12th Streets as Port Royal UMC, St. Mark’s Chapel and the Beaufort County YMCA provide a safe trick-or-treating experience for children of all ages.

The Spaghetti Club in Habersham: The inaugural event will begin at 7 p.m. on Oct. 31 with a Halloween Costume Party and dancing with DJ Jamie Wildridge.

Exchange Club’s annual Beaufort Ghost Tours: Running through Thursday, Oct. 30, take a carriage ride or walking tour through the moss lined streets of Beaufort’s historic district as costumed guides share stories about some of Beaufort’s notorious ghosts. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 843-52-GHOST (843-524-4678) or going to their website.

Bikers Against Bullies Haunted House: Open from 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday nights until Saturday, Nov. 1, tickets are $10 for ages 6-12 and $15 for ages 13 and older. The haunted house is in the Beaufort Plaza Shopping Center at the corner of Robert Smalls Parkway and Boundary Street next to Staples and Burke’s.

6th annual Habersham Harvest Festival: The event runs from 10 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 25 at Habersham Marketplace. Admission is free and the family friendly event features food, crafts, hayrides, a pet parade, a pickle eating contest, and live entertainment.

Carteret Street United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch: The pumpkin patch is open daily and sponsored by the Carteret Street Youth. All proceeds raised benefit Carteret Street’s youth ministries. All pumpkins are grown in New Mexico by Navajo Indians and are shipped directly to the church on Carteret Street as a gesture of faith and then the church sells the pumpkins, reports the sales and keeps a percentage of the overall sales of the pumpkins.

Sea Island Presbyterian Church Trunk-or-Treat: The event will run from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26 and will feature trick-or-treating from Trunk to Trunk and a not-so-scary costume contest at the church located at 81 Lady’s Island Drive on Lady’s Island.

The Highway 21 Drive-In Trunk-or-Treat: The event will open at 5:30 p.m. and trunk-or-treating will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1. There will be vehicle decoration contests, a pumpkin carving contest and a costume contest. They are showing a triple feature of scary movies including Young Frankenstein and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Water’s Edge Community Trunk-or-Treat: This event will begin at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26 and will feature trick-or-treating from trunk to trunk.

3rd annual Fort Fremont Harvest Festival: The event will go from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, at Fort Fremont on St. Helena Island and will feature a reenactment, 19th century children’s games, nature displays, live music, food and a free shuttle service from overflow parking on Land’s End Woodland Road. The event will be canceled only if the weather does not cooperate and admission is free.
