Fatal crash on U.S. 17 claims life of Sheldon man

A fatal crash involving a dirt bike and minivan has claimed the life of a 28-year-old Sheldon man, officials say.

Arnold DeQuan Kelly died in the crash, said Beaufort County Administrative Deputy Coroner Janet Horton.

The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 16, on U.S. Highway 17 near Gardens Corner, according to Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell with the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A 2006 Dodge Caravan stopped at a stop sign on Baileys Road was struck by the Kawasaki KX450 Kelly was riding after the Caravan proceeded to cross the highway, Tidwell said. Kelly was travelling south on the highway when he hit the driver’s side of the Caravan.

He died at the scene, Horton said.
