Rivers receives In-Home Aide of the Year award

The South Carolina Home Care & Hospice Association presented its 2015 HOME (Honoring Outstanding Merit & Excellence) Awards at their Annual Conference & Expo November 2. These awards recognize the true heroes in home care, home health and hospice: those who serve on the front line every day, encountering numerous challenges often with a smile on their face and a fierce determination to persevere on behalf of their patients.

This year’s recipient of the In-Home Aide of the Year Award is Karen Rivers with THA Group/Island Hospice. Ms. Rivers lives in Seabrook, SC and has been with THA Group’s Island Hospice for six years, during which she has worked in every part of the company: private duty, home care and hospice. She demonstrates a willingness to fill in wherever needed, and the capability to provide top-level care for all patients. In addition to being an outstanding in-home aide, Karen goes above and beyond by serving as a patient and family advocate, voicing concerns of her patients and their families to the interdisciplinary team. Perhaps her most notable quality is her caring heart, for this is not something that can be taught. Rather, it is a part of who she is.
