Turtle Time with Janie Lackman

Description of event:  Join Beaufort’s own “Turtle Lady” and learn what she and her team do to protect the loggerhead turtles in our area!

Dig Into Reading Craft Day

Description of Event:  Mrs. Darlene is hosting a  treasure theme craft that complements our Dig Into Reading Summer program. Craft for families and ages 7+.

Experiencing Cuba: How to visit Cuba, legally, and what you’ll find when you get there

Description:  Sandy Dimke will not only show beautiful images of her trip to Cuba, including all those wonderful classic 1950’s cars, but will also explain the recent history of the island, the economics and what the future has in store. She will also explain the procedure to plan a trip to Cuba through the US Treasury’s People-to-People program.

Description of Event:  Join other local scrapbookers to create an album recording the history of the St. Helena Branch Library. Supplies provided, but feel free to bring any additional tools. Program is intended for adult scrapbookers.

Before Fifty Shades of Grey: History’s Scandalous Reads

Short Description: Think “Fifty Shades of Grey” has caused shock waves? Try “Sons and Lovers,” “Ulysses,” and “Fanny Hill.” College of Charleston English professor Dr. Joe Kelly and Beaufort County Library Assistant Director Jan O’Rourke will speak on the history of obscene and salacious fiction and the current erotica publishing trend. This program is intended for adult audiences.

Short Description: Do you remember a time before The Feminine Mystique was published in 1963? Interested in hearing personal stories from women who do? Join us to discuss how women’s lives changed in the last half of the 20th century.  Program is intended for adult audiences.

Poison Pen Mystery Book Club

Short Description: Enjoy a discussion of mysteries old and new over coffee and treats. We’re reading “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd” by Agatha Christie. Hercule Poirot puts his little grey cells to work to solve a murder in a small English village of King’s Abbot. This groundbreaking mystery caused outrage at its publication due to its plot twist that many readers considered “unfair.” Program is intended for adult readers.

Reading Pre-Registration for Dig Into Reading!

Short Description: Come in and sign up for our Fantastic Summer Reading Program! We will dig and read, have fun with parachutes, and look at fossils! We have Sean Driscoll and Ronald McDonald visits planned, too. Summer Reading is for everyone. We register children birth to age 11 in the Children’s Area.

Short Description: A moving storytime program for 2-5 year olds and their adult caregivers, which incorporates movement and learning using ideas from the State Library’s Every Child Ready to Read Initiative.

Sean Driscoll Performs at St. Helena Branch Library

Short Description: Join whacky Paleontologist Diggery Digger on his fossil finding adventure. Connect clues from an array of dinosaurs to find baby dino’s mom. Unearth fossil facts with a blast to the past using digger’s fossil time machine!
