Thomas Babin

Thomas Joseph Babin, 66, born in Savannah, GA on December 28, 1946, died after a lengthy and valiant fight with cancer, February 25, 2013, at Beaufort Memorial Hospital in Beaufort SC under hospice care.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Roy and Effie Babin, his mother-in-law, Frances H. Morrow and father-in law, Holmes A. Morrow.

After college, Tom entered several business ventures before starting his current business, B & B Distributors in Beaufort, SC. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Beaufort S.C. and the Knights of Columbus.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Martha (Marti) Babin and his son Steffen Kobleur, Hilton Head, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Addison and Boyce Kobleur, Hilton Head, SC, his brother, Roy Babin, Marietta, GA, his sister-in-law, Kathryn Morrow, Beaufort, SC, his aunt, Eloise Leche, Savannah, GA and several cousins.

The family wishes to express gratitude to friends, relatives and the professional care organizations that supported Tom during his battle. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Peters Catholic Church.

Tom will be cremated. Family visitation and wake was Wednesday, February 27, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. with Catholic rosary after at 6:30 p.m. at Copeland Funeral Home, One Copeland Drive, Beaufort, SC 29902.

A Memorial Mass was held Thursday, February 28 at 11 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church, 70 Ladys Island Dr., Beaufort, SC 29907.

Bertha Glover

Bertha M. Glover, 86, of the Oaks community on St. Helena Island and wife of Rev. Benjamin Glover, died Saturday, February 23, 2013 at her home. Viewing was Thursday, February 28, 2013 in Helen Galloway’s Memorial Chapel of Chisholm Galloway Home for Funerals. Funeral serviced were at 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 at Grace and Truth Chapel on St. Helena Island.  Burial will be in the Beaufort National Cemetery.

Bernice Hoover

Bernice Garvin Hoover, 88, formerly of Allendale, SC and widow of Otis Hoover died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the home of Gracie Walker in the Orange Grove community on St. Helena Island. Viewing was Monday, March 4 from 4-7 p.m. in Helen Galloway’s Memorial Chapel of Chisholm Galloway Home for Funerals. Funeral services were at noon Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Chisholm Galloway Home for Funerals. Burial will be in the Beaufort National Cemetery. Arrangements by Chisholm Galloway Home for Funerals.

Gussie Jenkins

Gussie Jenkins, 84, of Lady’s Island died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the Bayview Manor in Beaufort.

Marie Beatrice Taylor

Marie Beatrice Myers Taylor, 92, widow of Clarence Melvin Taylor, Jr. Beaufort, SC passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2013.  Marie was born August 1, 1921, daughter of Loretta Jane Kauffman Myers and Otis Ervin Myers of Hughesville, PA.  She graduated from Hughesville High School in 1939 and Potts Shorthand College in 1940. During the World War II she supported the war effort by working in an explosives factory in Lycoming County.

She met the love of her life, Clarence, at a Square Dance in Hughesville, PA.  They were married September 12, 1942 and spent the next 61 years on a life long adventure.  Marie worked over 40 years as Secretary for Girton Manufacturing Company in Millville, PA.  She served as Justice of the Peace for 18 year in Greenwood Township and for 30 years as Notary Public.

In 1982, Marie and Clarence continued their adventures when they retired, bought their first Motor Home and hit the road for the long overdue Honeymoon in Niagara Falls! As active members in the Good Sam’s Club, they traveled throughout the United States and fell in love with Beaufort SC where they moved in 1990.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Simone Taylor Hartranft of Eureka California, nieces Betty Myers Eichenlaub, Savannah, GA and Patty Lou Myers Clayton of Hughesville, PA, Michelle Kindt, Newtown Square, PA, Marie Victoria Kindt, Doylestown, PA and Nicole Kindt Thompson, Knoxville, TN and many great nieces and nephews.

The family of Marie received friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 5 at Copeland Funeral Service, Beaufort, SC. Interment will be in Millville PA Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions please make a donation in her name to a No Kill Animal Shelter in your area. Copeland Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
