Lowco stars help lead South team to win at All-Star Game

The Lowcountry made its presence known Saturday at the Touchstone Energy Bowl North-South All-Star Game in Myrtle Beach.

Bluffton receiver Rakim White caught a touchdown pass, teammate Evan Hayes was 5-for-5 on PATs, and May River’s Terry Fields returned an interception for a touchdown to cap off a 35-13 win for the South team over the North all-stars.

The South offense did most of its damage through the air and spread the wealth, with nine different players catching at least one pass. White had two receptions, including a 6-yard TD, and Beaufort High running back James Dagin added a catch to go along with a team-high six carries for three yards. Team South managed only 28 rushing yards on 16 attempts against a tough defensive front for Team North.

Fields had two tackles and a pass breakup in addition to his pick-6 in the final minute of the game. Battery Creek’s Brandon Wilson also contributed to the strong defensive showing for the South squad, making two tackles — one for loss — and adding half a sack.

The South has won back-to-back meetings for the first time since winning three straight from 2012-14.
