Students attending schools in the Beaufort County School District will have an eLearning day on Monday, Sept. 30, and will not be attending school in person “as the district still has families and staff members severely impacted by the storm,” according to a release sent out on Sunday afternoon.
Assuming electrical and internet utilities are functioning, students will be required to do eLearning from home to avoid having to implement a make-up day.
This is the second eLearning day that BCSD has had due to Hurricane Helene as students also had an eLearning day on Friday, Sept. 27.
Students who are still experiencing issues from the storm will be given five days to complete any work and beyond that the schools will work with families on an individual basis, according to the release.
“Please know that schools will be flexible with families who are still without electricity or internet service,” said the release.
According to Candace Bruder, a spokesperson for BCSD, students are expected to return to school as normal on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
Families are encouraged to communicate with their schools for additional eLearning information.
Bridges Preparatory School has also announced that they will operate remotely on Monday.
In an email to families, the school announced that they would be reversing their original decision to hold school as typical on Monday after receiving feedback from members of their faculty and the community, many of which still are without power and resources.
All athletic events and after-school activities have also been canceled for the school “to give our families time to take care of each other and their property,” according to the email.
Gary McCulloch, Chief Executive Officer of the school, said that they will decide by 3 p.m. on Monday as to whether they will be returning to campus on Tuesday.
