About the State Election Commission

The mission of the State Election Commission is to ensure every eligible citizen has the opportunity to register to vote and participate in fair and impartial elections with the assurance that every vote will count. It is my pleasure to note that our Election Commission has not followed the misguided path of so many red states in withdrawing from the nonprofit and nonpartisan consortium that helps states keep voter rolls updated through interstate data exchange.

The Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC) database has for some reason been targeted by right-wing extremists who cry foul about our elections but don’t seem to actually want to support elections integrity by openly sharing information through ERIC. Too liberal?

I appreciate this indication that S.C. election officials continue to take seriously their responsibilities to us voters. More information about ERIC is found at ericstates.org.

My thoughts

Beth Lewis and Sharon Kirsch: Still at my age I am dumbfounded with rich Republicans still trying to get the middle class to pay for their kids to go to private schools. But I understand (states are) gerrymandered by Republican legislators, keeping them in power to (commit) this crime.

Seth From The Gym: I was so inspired to read his story. I’m very proud of Seth and for his parents’ job raising him.

Cherimie Weatherford: Her story reminded me of growing up at my Dami and Papa’s dairy farm in Fordland, Mo., and my joy and wonderment of walking the cow trails through the fields, woods, and creeks at 3 years old. Helping my Dami pick the garden and gathering eggs from the chicken coup. Papa teaching me how to hand milk the cows at 4 years old. At 6 years old, I was driving the pick up truck and tractor.

My grandparents had 19 grand kids. My Papa gave me a dollar bill one year after helping put up silage. Dami told me Papa had never given money to any of his grand kids. I loved to fish in the ponds while using a stick, string, and bobber with a worm on the hook.

One day I caught eight small bass despite my cousins throwing rocks in my fishing hole. When I brought in my catch, my Dami made my cousins help hold up the stringer for a photo. I was furious!

I said “Dami, they didn’t help me catch the fish.” Dami replied, “nipple nonny, you are too small to hold up all those fish.” Then she taught me how to clean fish. Sadly both my Grandparents passed away from Alzheimer’s in their early 90s. They were married over 70 years.

Thanks for Larry Dandridge

Thank you very much for your ongoing support of our veterans and active military members via articles by Larry Dandridge. This information is appreciated not only locally, but is spread far and wide via the internet.

I send the articles along to my veteran friends and organizations in the Philadelphia/South Jersey area where Larry (and The Island News) is known as well. Looking forward to more helpful articles in 2024 and beyond.
