GROCERY STORE ROBBED by Matt Clancy
At 8:50 p.m. on July 6, 2011 Beaufort Police officers responded to a report of an armed robberythat had just occurred at the Publix located at 163 Sea Island Parkway. According to witnesses, a suspect entered the business and approached the customer service counter and demanded money from the employee behind the counter. The employee complied and the suspect placed the money in a plastic bag and fled the scene. The suspect was last seen running from the business. Officers and deputies set up a perimeter and k-9 units attempted to track the subject.The suspect was not located. He is described as an African-American man in his twenties of medium height and thin build. He was dressed in black clothing with a black cloth over his face and armed with a small silver handgun. Anyone with information on this case is requested to call Investigator Dowling at 322-7950 or the dispatch office at 524-2777.
