Hundreds turn out for ‘March for Justice’ in Beaufort

About 400, possibly more, participants showed up to march in the Father’s Day “March for Justice” in downtown Beaufort on Sunday, June 21. The event featured a number of speakers who spoke to crowds gathered at Waterfront Park before the march including retired United States Air Force Maj. Gen. Harold Mitchell, who organized the event, and numerous community and faith leaders.

Holding signs, carrying children or walking in couples or small groups, participants marched in silence through closed streets in Beaufort. The march ended back at the park where 8 minutes and 46 seconds of silence was held to honor the life of George Floyd, who died at the hands of police in Minneapolis.
