From staff reports

Gullah Kinfolk Christmas Wish … Freedom Comin’ is a unique and memorable musical produced by Aunt Pearlie Sue and the Gullah Kinfolk Traveling Theatre that has entertained the South Carolina Sea Islands for many years. This year, it will be performed in a unique and memorable way.

Due to health and safety concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual production of Gullah Kinfolk Christmas Wish … Freedom Comin’ will be presented in a movie format to premiere Tuesday, Dec. 1 at the Highway 21 Drive-In in Beaufort.

A family-friendly production, it is the story of Christmas as seen through the eyes of the Gullahs. It will allow the viewer to step back in time and experience of the history of an era, and a culture deeply embedded in the unique Gullah Geechee heritage of the Lowcountry.

The performance is narrated by Anita Singleton-Prather – Aunt Pearlie Sue. Prather and the Gullah Kinfolk have performed at many festivals, including the Spoleto USA International Arts Festival in Charleston, Festival of the Sea in San Francisco, the Connection Project in Barbados and most recently in Sierra Leone, West Africa.
