Staff reports

Rain pushed the start back an hour, but the 33rd season of Port Royal’s Street Music on Paris Avenue kicked off Saturday.

Locals eager to burn off some energy brought out their chairs and dancing shoes to take in the sounds of musician, film composer, arranger, musical director, and band leader Iliana Rose. Rose was born in Miami and raised by Cuban parents and grandparents. She is steeped in Cuban rhythms and culture.

The rest of the Street Music schedule is as follows:

August 24: The Joe Krown Trio featuting Papa Mali. Featuring Joe Krown (Kenny Wayne Sheppard) on piano and producer/vocalist/songwriter Papa Mali on lead guitar and vocals, this show is made for those who love New Orleans music.

September 7: Kat Wright. According to reviews, her voice is sultry, dynamic and powerful; gritty but highly emotive and nuanced. She is described in the schedule as “a young Bonnie Raitt meets Amy Winehouse.”

September 21: Gabe Stillman. The Gabe Stillman Band hits the stage in high gear and only goes higher as they embrace all corners of American Roots music with their impromptu selection of originals and carefully chosen covers.

All shows start promptly at 6 p.m., on Saturday, between 9th and 10th Streets on Paris Avenue in downtown Port Royal. Bring your chairs or your dancing shoes.
