Downtown Merchants open month of gratitude with Downtown Bucks

From staff reports

This month, Downtown Merchants will share their spirit of thankfulness by giving discounts on shopping dollars through their Downtown Bucks program.

During the First Friday celebration, from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 6, shoppers will have the opportunity to purchase Downtown Bucks for 60 cents on the dollar then use them to make purchases from participating businesses. The Bucks will be on sale from a booth that will be set up near the clock tower at Bay and West streets.

The Bucks, which will be sold in increments of $20, can be spent just like cash. No change will be made for the Bucks so when they are used for purchases, they must be spent in their entirety.

A total of $5,000 in Downtown Bucks is available, and purchases of the Bucks is limited to a total of $100 per person and must be paid for in cash only.

Downtown Bucks can be used at participating stores through Dec. 31. Some restrictions apply as individual shops and businesses have determined which merchandise and purchases the Bucks can be used for.

First Friday is always a fun way to start off the month. The blocks will be filled with music while stores stay open late to give everyone an opportunity to grab a bite to eat at a downtown restaurant and leisurely and conveniently get a jump start on holiday gift shopping. All are welcome.

This and all First Friday events are free and open to the public.
