Beaufort Theatre Company hosting auditions for ‘Into The Woods’

From staff reports

USCB Center for the Arts and the Beaufort Theatre Company are hosting auditions for the Spring 2026 production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s masterwork “Into the Woods” from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 14 from 6 – 8 pm in the Center for the Arts auditorium.

“Into the Woods” takes everyone’s favorite storybook characters and brings them together for a timeless yet relevant modern classic. The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s Festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.

The cast is made up of 18 characters played by 12 to 18 actors. A full character list is available at https://bit.ly/3YrS6mH, ranging in age (17 and up), gender, and ethnicity.

Those auditioning should bring a non-returnable photo and arrive 15 minutes early to complete the required forms. It is strongly suggested auditioners prepare one of the following audition songs (16 bars maximum): for men, “Agony (or Reprise)” or “Giants in the Sky,” and for women, “Last Midnight” or “On the Steps of the Palace.” A piano accompanist will be provided for the selected songs. Please select an option from the Audition Sides listed on the audition page of the USCB Center for the Arts website.

Those auditioning should wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and be prepared to learn some dance moves. Please note that not everyone who auditions will be cast. Cast size is limited, and all cast members must be able to sing and harmonize.

“Sharing your time and talent only helps to strengthen our Beaufort community,” Director Libby Ricardo said in a media release. “Consider auditioning and bringing your talents to the CFA stage.”

Production dates are April 11, 12, 17, 18, and 19. Further audition information can be found at www.uscbcenterforthearts.com.
