The Beaufort High School Eagles narrowly beat the Lakes City Panthers 58-55, on Friday night, Feb.17, before a capacity crowd during the second round state playoff game.
The Eagles Nest, as the gym is called, was a loud and raucous place to be each time a basket was made on both sides.
The game itself was back and forth all night. By the time the buzzer sounded, the Eagles were ahead by three points.
One of the high points of the game was Beaufort’s own Sully Gay sinking his 1,000 career point during the second half. He was awarded the game ball during a brief ceremony at the end of the game.
The Eagles will next face the Bruins of Orangeburg-Wilkinson on Monday night at 7 pm.
The Bruins are 21-6 overall and post an undefeated 10-0 record in Region 5.
