Beaufort County reported its first coronavirus death Monday.

According to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), the patient was an elderly individual who had underlying health conditions.

Along with another death in Anderson County, this brings the state’s total number of deaths to 18. That patient was also an elderly individual with underlying health conditions.

DHEC is reporting 151 additional cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the total number statewide to 925 cases.

Beaufort County reported an additional 24 cases bringing the total for the county to 74.

“We’re all in this together,” said Dr. Brannon Traxler, DHEC physician. “Today’s announcement is a stark reminder of the serious threat that COVID-19 poses to our families, friends, and communities. We encourage all South Carolinians to continue to listen to the guidance of our public health professionals and to, when possible, stay home and limit your close contact with others.”
