A Beaufort County man wanted in connection to the 2019 death of his girlfriend’s 8-month-old son has been found and arrested, police say.

Frederick Luma, 27, of Lady’s Island, was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 23, outside of Atlanta, according to statement issued by the Beaufort Police Department.

He was found by authorities in Clayton County, Ga., and is currently being held at the Clayton County Jail awaiting extradition back to Beaufort, the statement said.

On June 19, 2019, Luma called 911 to report the baby was not breathing.

The infant was taken to the hospital by Emergency Medical Services and died a short time later, according to the statement.

Investigators interviewed Luma, who admitted to shaking the baby. Luma left the area before arrest warrants were issued.

He is being charged with homicide by child abuse.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Investigator Joshua Dowling at 843-322-7950 or the Anonymous Tip Line at 843-322-7938.
