Sparklight, formerly Hargray, was experiencing a “widescale internet and phone outage” on Monday affecting all Beaufort County customers.

The City of Beaufort and Beaufort County, along with countless businesses and private customers have been without internet services and landline phones beginning sometime around 10:40 a.m., according to Hargray’s website. There are Sparklight/Hargray outages across Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, according to DownDetector.com.

The outage, however is not affecting 9-1-1 services, according to Master Sgt. Danny Allen, spokesperson for the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

A post on Hargray’s Facebook page read, “A portion of Hargray customers are experiencing slow internet or internet outages due to fiber damage caused by a third-party. Technicians are working diligently to get services restored as quickly and safely as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience. We will provide updates here as information becomes available.”

As of 12:45 p.m., Sparklight/Hargray officials had not responded to email inquiries from The Island News.

A customer service representative contacted by phone could not give any estimate when the outage might be resolved. Her suggestion was to “call back in 24 hours.”
