Veterans Day Parade canceled
The Beaufort County Veterans Affairs Department has canceled the Veteran’s Day Parade scheduled for November 11, due to the ongoing pandemic.

Beaufort Lions Club sending glasses to Mozambique
Used eyeglasses donated in the Beaufort Lions Club drop boxes will be sterilized, sorted and distributed to residents of Mozambique this year as a S..C Lions District 32-C service project.
Drop boxes can be found at both Scott St. and St. Helena Island branches of the Beaufort County Library, AmVets on Ribaut Road, the Beaufort Memorial Hospital front desk, the Naval Hospital Eye Clinic, St. John’s Lutheran Church and all local vision care centers.
In previous years, donated eyewear from South Carolina has been distributed to developing nations in South America.
Donations of cell phones, hearing aids, children’s prescription glasses, prescription sunglasses and unused contact lens are also accepted in the drop boxes.
County spraying for mosquitoes
Beaufort County Mosquito Control may conduct aerial and/or ground treatments from Oct. 12 to Oct. 16. Mosquito Control applies EPA-registered public health insecticide during ideal weather using low-flying aircraft throughout daylight hours and spray trucks from about 11 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

Parris Island holding live-fire training
Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island will be conducting extended live-fire training Oct. 17 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The marsh and waterways in the range impact area including Archers Creek, Ribbon Creek, and Edding Creek will be closed to boater traffic.

BJWSA to conduct annual water main flushing
Beaufort-Jasper Water and Sewer Authority (BJWSA), Hilton Head Public Service District (HHPSD) and Broad Creek Public Service District (BCPSD) will temporarily change the drinking water treatment method and flush water lines throughout their service areas for a two-week period starting Oct. 29.
The change is part of the routine maintenance program for the utilities’ water distribution systems. There will be no interruption in service as a result of the work.
Customers can use their water as normal, but may notice a slight chlorine taste or odor in the tap water through Friday, Nov. 13. Customers in some areas may notice brief discoloration in the tap water as a result of lines being flushed.
If water appears discolored, customers should run cold water for a few minutes. If discoloration persists, BJWSA customers can call 843-987-9200. In addition, the following wholesale customers will be affected: Callawassie, Moss Creek (Water Oak Utilities), Harbor Island, Fripp Island and the military facilities. Contact your designated utility with any questions.
Republicans hosting tailgate rally
All Beaufort County Republican Clubs will be participating in a Get Out The Vote Tailgate Rally from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25 at the GOP headquarters at 149 Riverwalk Blvd., Suite 11, in Ridgeland.
GOP candidates for locals offices will be speaking.
There will be music and giveaways, a raffle, a sing-a-long and a GOP dress your kids picture. Bring folding chairs and refreshments.

BJWSA to hold 6th Imagine a Day Without Water
On Oct. 21, Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) will participate in Imagine a Day Without Water, an effort to educate the public about the water infrastructure crisis currently facing the United States.
Organized by the Value of Water Coalition, hundreds of organizations across the country seek to raise awareness about the crucial need for investment in water and the infrastructure that brings it to homes and businesses.
BJWSA invites customers to engage on their website (www.bjwsa.org/idww) and Facebook page, downloading a Water Awareness Journal or reporting their observations on the campaign to Public Education and Engagement Planner Lou Brown at lou.brown@bjwsa.org.
