Hundreds turn out to remember Beaufort Police Chief Matthew Clancy
Hundreds turned out for a public funeral service held for Beaufort Police Chief Matthew “Matt” Clancy at Beaufort’s Waterfront Park on Friday, Aug. 7.
Clancy, 56, died on July 29 after a long fight with neuroendocrine cancer.
Members of the Beaufort Police Department and other first responders from around the area attended the service along with city and state officials.
The program included numerous speakers including Clancy’s two sons, Connor and Tyler. Many recounted personal stories and fond memories of Clancy, who served as Beaufort’s police chief for 11 years.
“He had a very big heart,” said Tyler Clancy, who gave his father’s eulogy. Tyler went on to talk about the example his father set, teaching his children to treat everyone with respect.
“His quiet strength was common in our home,” he said.
