Eagles fall in Lower State final

Beaufort High’s boys tennis team saw its playoff run end with a 6-0 loss to a strong Myrtle Beach team in the Class 4A Lower State finals on Monday.

The Eagles cruised through their first playoff match, beating visiting North Myrtle Beach 5-1 as Griffin Stone, Diego Ladino, Merritt Patterson, and Mitchell Russell each won singles matches and Casey Hoogenboom and Bodie Daniel won in doubles.

Stone and Ladino teamed up to win the clinching doubles match and give the Eagles a 4-3 win over visiting Wilson in the Lower State semifinals. The visiting Tigers won three of the five singles courts, but Beaufort’s Mitchell Russell was able to grind out a three-set win at No. 5 and Tucker Martin and Bodie Daniel won in straight sets at No. 2 doubles, forcing the deciding No. 1 doubles match.

The Eagles finished the season with a 15-3 record.
