Last week over a dozen Beaufort-area children attended Camp Sea Breeze, a weeklong camp for kids ages 6 through 11 with asthma. The annual program, hosted by Beaufort Memorial and the YMCA of Beaufort County, is a day camp designed to teach the children how to enjoy an active lifestyle while coping with their disease. Staffed by Beaufort Memorial respiratory therapists, the camp combines field trips, arts and crafts, exercise and nutrition classes, as well as asthma education in a fun and safe environment. Several local medical practices and individuals, including Sea Island Pediatrics, Beaufort Pediatrics, All Children’s Pediatrics, Beaufort Jasper Hampton Comprehensive Health, Dr. Faith Polkey and the BMH Respiratory Therapy Department, helped sponsor scholarships for children to attend.
