Members of Beaufort High’s mentoring club, Ladies First, were provided eye-opening information from Beaufort Police Department’s Stephanie Karafa. The subject of the program was “Criminal Domestic Violence; Warning Signs and What to Do if You are a Victim.” Officer Karafa shared this critical information with our students, important especially since South Carolina ranks second in the nation for the number of domestic violence fatalities. Beaufort High’s Ladies First Club is comprised of staff members who serve as mentors to student members, providing a one-to-one relationship that supports a student through their high school years. Mentors check in on the girls regularly, especially when progress reports and report cards are issued. Monthly programs like this one help provide tools for success for members.
