‘The Indie Film Corner: ‘The Trip to Italy’

The USCB Center for the Arts presents the film “The Trip to Italy” on Monday, October 13 at 7 p.m.

Director Michael Winterbottom’s largely improvised 2010 film, “The Trip,” took comedians Steve Cooga and Ro Brydon — or semifictionalized versions thereof — on a restaurant tour around northern England.

In this witty and incisive followup, Winterbottom reunites the pair for a new culinary road trip, retracing the steps of the Romantic poets’ grand tour of Italy and indulging in some sparkling banter and impersonation-offs. Re-whetting our palates from the earlier film, the characters enjoy mouthwatering meals in gorgeous settings from Liguria to Capri while riffing on subjects as varied as Batman’s vocal register, the artistic merits of “Jagged Little Pill,” and, of course, the virtue of sequels.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 seniors, and $7 for students. The Center for the Arts is located at 801 Carteret Street, Beaufort, SC, 29902. Contact the box office at 843-521-4145 or email bhargrov@uscb.edu or visit www.uscbcenterforthearts.com.
