Lady’s Island residents Katherine and David Easlick are in the process of opening a new business, Haute Diggity Dawg, on the island. David says, “We will open online at www.hautediggitydawg.com by December 1, and we opened our retail store in Oakwood Plaza II on Sams Point Road on November 1. Our plan is to stock collars, leads, dog beds, dog sized collegiate sports apparel, travel items, novelties. The business plan is to stay out of the food and live pet business, while concentrating on quality pet accessories and dog fashion statements.”
David and Katherine arrived on Lady’s Island from Naples, Florida, in February with their 10-year-old Wire Hair Fox Terrier, Mercie. Katherine has never met a dog that she didn’t love. The business was her idea — there aren’t enough things for the discriminating dog. “We are staying away from food and supplies. You can get that at PetSmart. We look to service a different market with gifts, art, ruffles, a new line of designer leashes, and fun things. There really is no competition within a hundred miles to appeal to the vacation and retiree market as well as local dog lovers,” said Katherine.
As their store backs up to The Grooming Cottage, a professional groomer in the same building, Haute Diggity Dawg will be offering their clients coupons for the store.
The grand opening was on November 1. New inventory is arriving daily, but they are fully stocked and operational. Katherine’s son, Charlie Coudriet, is the manager and eager to help. They are open to suggestions as to favorite lines of merchandise to stock. Please contact the store with ideas at HauteDiggityDawg@outlook.com.
David, a lawyer and realtor, states that most of his life was spent in suburban Detroit; Washington, DC; and Naples, Fla., but that he has known about Beaufort since he was a child. He said, “My mother was a Barnwell, and Tuscaroara Jack Barnwell (Beaufort’s founder in 1711) is my seven greats grandfather. My Great-Great-Grandfather moved to Georgia after the Civil War. I love this town. Growing up, I never had many relatives around, now it’s like coming home, only 150 years later!”
Haute Diggity Dawg is located at 53B Sams Point Road, Lady’s Island, SC, 29907. Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Call 843-522-0679.
