“Deaf people can do anything in life” is the motto Kardeem Allen. The Beaufort resident will soon graduate from the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind where he played football, gained a competitive spirit, and learned to be part of a team.
He’ll take those important skills with him as he attains a welding certification next year through the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind’s Career Preparation Program and Spartanburg Community College. After that, he plans to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology, Gallaudet University, or a local community college.
While attending the SC School for the Deaf and the Blind, Kardeem competed in varsity football, basketball, and track. He received an art award for creativity, a horse riding award, and a principal’s good behavior award. He enjoyed socializing in the school’s Bock Activity Center, playing pool with friends, working out in the weight room, and going swimming in the school’s indoor pool.
Kardeem is the son of Erica and Chris Bilbrew of Beaufort.
The SC School for the Deaf and the Blind is the state’s only specialized school for students who are deaf or blind.
