Woman hospitalized, man in custody after shooting Friday

A St. Helena woman is in stable condition at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) after being shot Friday night, Dec. 1.

At approximately 11:40 p.m., a woman arrived at Beaufort Memorial Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, the 23-year-old woman was shot as she was driving away from a Melody Lane residence by Vincent Medlock.
Medlock allegedly fired shots at the victim’s car and a bullet penetrated the exterior of the vehicle, striking the woman. Medlock drove her to the hospital to seek treatment after realizing that she was injured.
The victim remains at MUSC. Medlock is incarcerated at the Beaufort County Detention Center and charged with attempted murder.
