The Whale Branch Warriors rolled out their new turf field in style with a 33-0 shutout of the visiting St. John’s Islanders in their Region 6-1A debut Friday.

Quarterback Jaylen Reeves racked up 210 yards on 13 carries and scored four touchdowns, and Jadon Grant added a touchdown run for the Warriors, who led 27-0 at halftime after waiting out a first-half lightning delay.

The Warriors defense had an excellent night, causing havoc in the backfield and creating three fumbles and two interceptions. Reeves came up with one of the picks, as he and the Warriors had a very productive night on both sides of the ball. Mason Griffin also had a pick, and Ray Pryor, Jaylen Roberts, and Joseph Hicks all recovered fumbles.

On the other side, the Islanders struggled to get anything going on offense. The Warrior defense had an answer for everything St. John’s threw at them and limited the Islanders’ big plays.

The Warriors ran the ball straight up the gut of the Islanders defense and consistently gained big chunks of yards.

Whale Branch (1-0) will travel to Charleston to face off against Military Magnet next Friday.

Whale Branch quarterback Jaylen Reeves ran for 210 yards and four touchdowns on 13 carries in the Warriors’ 33-0 win over St. John’s on Friday, Sept. 25.
