Beaufort’s Blyzes, 88, enlisted in 1949 in Missouri. After Navy radarman training, he served aboard the USS Samuel B. Roberts (DD823) in the western Pacific during the Korean War. Finishing his Navy enlistment, he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1954 with training in communications. During Vietnam he earned a temporary commission and fought in the siege of Khe Sahn where he was awarded several Purple Hearts. He returned and served as Provost Marshall at both Parris Island and MCAS Beaufort. He retired as a Captain, USMC, with a month shy of 31 years service.
